This is perhaps one of the weirdest movies I have ever seen. It is a French movie so it has all of the typical French elements:
- Dark content
- Random gratuitous sex that is placed in random places with no apparent connection to the movie content
- Blood, just to make you go ewww
Here is where is starts getting crazy.
- Vaginal mutilation
- A woman who urinates in movie theaters when arroused
- The same woman stabs herself in the chest in a theater
- Did I mention vaginal mutilation?
Oh yea - it is about a piano teacher. These are just tiny sinppets. Watch the whole thing to ruin sex for your entire life!?

I don’t know if you can blame the French for that, since it’s based on an Austrian novel…

And the director, Michael Haneke, is also Austrian, although he lives and works in France.

I didn’t know he was Austrian and it’s based on one of their novels. It’s supremely weird nonetheless.
