L’avant Poste New Year Message

If you can read this, then you are not dead,

If you are not seriously injured, you are not in bed,

If you can understand this you can use you’re head,

Be happy about it, the best way to start the New Year.

The rest is just bullshit.

Kurban Bayrami Begins Today

December 30, 2006 by Anil P.

Called Eid el-Adha or Eid el-Kebir in Arabic, Kurban Bayrami (koor-BAHN bahy-rah-muh) is the most important Islamic religious festival of the year, and a 4 or 5-day public holiday in Turkey. It will affect your travel plans, so be prepared for it. (Dates)

Kurban Bayrami is also the time of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca (Haj), so both domestic and international travel is intense in Turkey at this time.

Kurban Bayrami doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go to Turkey. You should plan for the holiday, though. Depending upon where you travel, you may find it changes your plans very little. Here’s what to do.

No matter what time of the year you are planning a trip to Turkey, check out Tom Brosnahan’s website – the best out there with travel tips to Turkey.

Although L’avant Posters have great travel stories and advice from all over the world too ;) Just ask us!

The Top 100 Things We Didn’t Know Last Year

  • Pele has always hated his nickname, which he says sounds like “baby-talk in Portuguese”.
  • The lion costume in the film Wizard of Oz was made from real lions.
  • Sex workers in Roman times charged the equivalent price of eight glasses of red wine.
  • More than 90% of plane crashes have survivors.
  • Forty-one percent of English women have punched or kicked their partners, according to a study.
  • The egg came first.
  • In the 1960s, the CIA used to watch Mission Impossible to get ideas about spying.

I’m becoming a sucker for end of the year lists. You can see the entire Top 100 if you’re addicted too.

Lookie what I found! He updates it on a regular basis (one of the few NBA players with a blog) making him a geek as well.

And we like geeks at L’avant Poste.

Gilbert Arenas’ blog – the new featured blog as well.

Virgin Vacations

Not what you are thinking. I’ve taken a Virgin Atlantic flight to London twice and I’m telling you once you fly Virgin you’ll never look at other airlines in the same way.

Now you can fly to London for $499 through the middle of February. Not only $499 for the round trip tickets, but also 6 nights hotel and breakfast. The last time I also got a discount on the Original Tour as well (hop on and off the bus all day all over London, plus some interesting facts and history, I enjoyed it very much).

There are other cities for varying prices as well, including Paris.

Save Those YouTube Videos

With videos like Salad Fingers, Chacarron, and the progression of Michael Jackson becoming white, how could you not want to save them to your computer?

There are few ways to do this. Here is my preferred method:

  • 2. This will download the flash (.flv) file to your computer.
  • 3. Now you need something to watch this video with. Download the FLV-Player (for Windows).
  • 4. If you’re running Mac, you’ll want to convert the .flv file to something you can watch (or MPEG4 for your video iPod). PodTube will do the trick. The link wasn’t working when I tried it, hopefully it will be up soon.
    • Windows users can convert the .flv files using the (free – this whole process is FREE) Riva FLV Encoder.

Now, there you go! YouTubes for your computer and iPod!
