Fez medina is the only place in the world that is like going back to the middle ages. Marrakesh on the other hand, is very touristy with lots of cheap flights from UK & France, most real travelers do not care much for it. The Sahara, Fez, Ait Ben Haddou should not be missed and Esouria is Morocco lite if you are in a beachy/windsurfing frame of mind. Be careful with the food, many get sick.
