Leading up to the movie go to the best source for news on everyone’s favorite famous smoking pirate.

Who needs Delaware or the Netherlands anyway? Created by a clever coder, this enhanced Google Flood Map lets you increase and decrease the world sea levels from +1 to +14 meters. You can view where NASA predicts you might have just bought beach-front property and say goodbye to the Bahamas and lots of Bangladesh.

Those of you aqua geeks wanting more can see how the water levels were calculated and the error rate on the Flood Maps blog post.

I’m not sure if any of you have a personalized Google pages, but now you can get foXnoMad posts directly fed to your customized homepages. The four little cute icons right below this post that look like this: just need one click from your mighty mouse.

The foXnoMad favorite Meebo, lets you get around instant messaging blocks at school or work. Meebo encrypts your passwords when you sign on (unlike AIM or MSN) and saves conversations for later review or in the event you lose touch with the Internet. Now Meebo has an SSL page that will encrypt your messages too, in case you want a little more privacy.

So bookmark the encrypted page while it is around. Using Meebo doesn’t require you to sign up for anything, just enter in your existing AIM, MSN, Yahoo, etc. account and password on their main page. Creating a Meebo account does give you some small perks however, like a buddy icon (aww, how cute).

A man get divorced and dives into bankruptcy by converting his home from the 20th century to the starship Voyager. Now Tony Alleyne is putting that same apartment up for sale in Leicestershire, England for a cool $200,000.

If you’re interested in buying take a virtual tour, check out some pictures [via Gizmodo] or Alleyne’s personal shots. England is pretty far away from San Francisco so Alleyne’s company 24thcid can Trektify your pad.

No word on price but combined with a 1960’s Trek theater, Federation Christmas tree, and some hanging inspirational posters you’re assured the golden crown of geekdom.

TravBuddy lets you create a personalized world map for your website, blog, or MySpace page. The nice thing about it is that it includes the 50 United States and includes that in it’s calculation of the number of “countries” you’ve been to. Customized TravBuddy maps are free to make. Begin your map-pimping here.

I liked it so much in fact that I decided to replace our own blog locations with a TravBuddy map. The main page also has links to other travel blogs and reviews.

When I last posted about techPresident the comments on presidential cadidates having MySpace pages were mostly negative. Well it seems that some bright soul in the McCain camp decided to use (without crediting) a template created by Newsvine. On top of that they pulled images without permission eating up bandwidth which called for geeky revenge.

For those of you who despise FakeSpace pages of famous people who have college interns maintaining them, you’ll get a kick out of this. Who knew he liked lesbians?

We did the review of our very first dirty/offensive French word of the week last week. The dirty French word of the week has been a brilliant idea (thanks Jenny for the idea)! Well one area I’ve neglected to focus on is pronunciation, so what better time than now?

Read on for merde the pronunciation.

As we’ve posted before, traveling, in particular flying, creates “a lot” of pollution. Those of you who like to hop around the Earth may want to do so without destroying it. Native Energy allows you to offset the extra - actually all - of the CO2 emissions you create in a year. First calculate the number of tons your household is responsible for annually. Round it up to the nearest whole number, for example 10. Native Energy then allows you to “offset” that same amount for $10 per month with 100% clean and renewable energy (for 10 tons).
