Green travelers out there looking to reduce their carbon emissions often focus on the transportation and forget that lodging generates tons of pollution each year.
Some things to lookout for when shopping for an ecofriendly hotel are to make sure there is a towels and linens reuse program, recycling is offered, and ask if they use florescent light bulbs.
Many countries certify hotels considered to meet “green” criteria - check Green Globe 21, Ecoclub, and for lesser-known places - Eco Tourism Society.
